An oral cancer screening is a visual and hands-on exam of your mouth and surrounding tissues. We look for sores that do not heal, unusual lumps, or areas of red or white tissue. The screening is completed during your regular checkup and usually takes about five minutes.
Most of the time, everything looks normal. If we notice something that needs monitoring, we’ll explain what we see and talk through next steps.
Oral cancer can develop without obvious symptoms, especially early on. That’s why we include this screening at every routine exam.
If it’s been a while since your last visit, this is a simple, helpful step toward protecting your long-term health without adding another appointment to your schedule.
You don’t book a separate appointment for this. Oral cancer screenings are already built into your regular dental exam at Corona Family Dental.
Between Visits
Check your mouth occasionally for sores that do not heal within two weeks, persistent lumps, numb areas, or difficulty swallowing. If you notice changes that last, contact our office so we can take a look.
Most mouth changes are harmless, but getting it checked early helps rule out concerns.
This is where your oral cancer screening happens. A dental exam lets us take a closer look, answer your questions, and make sure everything still looks healthy.
Cleanings help keep gums healthy and remove buildup that can make it harder to spot changes over time. Staying consistent helps us track what’s normal for you.
If we need more detail than a visual check can provide, digital X-rays help us look beneath the surface. We recommend imaging only when it helps guide care.
If you’re dealing with pain, swelling, or a sore that feels urgent, emergency care helps you get answers sooner. We’ll take a careful look and guide the next steps.
Healthy gums support your entire mouth. If we notice inflammation or irritation during your visit, gum therapy may be recommended to protect that foundation.
If you’re missing a tooth, X-rays allow us to assess nearby teeth and bone before planning a dental bridge that restores function and comfort.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Not at all. We look closely at the tissues in your mouth and gently feel your jaw and neck. Most patients feel little to nothing.
